Eden Begins Preschool on Feb 26

Today I [Theresa] met with the IU (Intermediate Unit) to go over Eden's IEP (Individualized Education Program). Since she is turning 3 years old next week her therapy services will fall under the jurisdiction of the IU, instead of Lancaster County's Early Intervention. After much deliberation we decided to place Eden in preschool at Schreiber's Pediatric Rehabilitation Center in Roherstown.

She's been taking Aquatic Therapy at Schreiber's since the summer and her Physical Therapy (PT) is based from Schreiber's. The center has a preschool class called a Reverse Mainstream which means that at least 50% of the students are typically developing children and the rest have some sort of delay(s). She'll attend Tuesday and Friday mornings from 9-11:30am starting Feb. 26. She'll recieve her therapies while at Schreiber's, sometimes in the classroom, sometimes out of the classroom (PT, OT, and Speech).

I know a few people whose children have attended Schreiber's preschool and they have had only good things to say about it. I even have a friend from Etown who is going to send her daughter to the preschool in the fall and we may be able to carpool. Because Eden qualifies for Special Instruction (Special Ed.), the state pays for her services and will provide transportation too if we want it. We're not getting that initially. So the only downside is the travel. But I think the benefits to Eden will outweigh our inconvenience. The school year runs year-round, with many breaks throughout the year and several weeks off June-July.

When I told Eden, earlier today, that she gets to go to school, she became very excited and asked me if she could wear her backpack!
