The latest on Eden

Tom informed me that it's time for another Eden update, so here's what the little cutie pie is up to.

She is fascinated with Lucky, our pet chick. She desperately wants to hold him ("I hold Ucky"), but since she's been sick she's had to settle for just touching his back a little bit. Good thing for Lucky that he lives in the basement, a place Eden can't get to without adult assistance. The other day, I used the expression "I'm so lucky!" and Eden informed me, "No Mommy, you not Lucky." She got a stuffed chick for Easter that peeps when you hold it and she immediately named it Lucky. She likes it better than the candy she got.

She is 3 years old and I am reminded of this fact several times each day. She wants to assert her independence yet it comes out at the most inopportune times. Many times throughout the day she'll ask to go to Grandma and Grandpa's house next door. When the opportunity finally arrives to go over, then she'll pout and say, "No. I stay my house." Even after she gets to Grandma's house she'll say "I want to go home." Inevitably, when it's time to go home again she'll say, "No. I stay Grandma's house." She also often protests at suppertime. Either she won't wash her hands or she won't sit in her highchair. If asked, "Do you need a timeout?" She'll say yes. When taken to timeout, then she'll want to have supper. When brought back out to the table the cycle begins again.

She loves to sing. We recently got a Puff the Magic Dragon picture book that came with a CD of the song. We sing it multiple times every day and she likes to sing along with it. She's especially captivated by "What happened to Jackie Paper?" at the end of the song. I say, "He grew up and he didn't play with dragons anymore." "Why?" she asks. She asks why a lot. I also taught her the chorus to Lo in the Grave He Lay in preparation for Easter. I made up hand motions too. She sings that with gusto. Ha-way-you-ya, Kwist awose!

She remembers the names of some of the kids in her classes at preschool and at church. She has a friend named Emma at church and a friend named Emma at preschool. The latter she has dubbed "more Emma" to distinguish from the former.

She's not shy about asking for what she wants. Or demanding what she wants. She does not want to crawl if she can avoid it. When wanting to walk down the hallway she'll often demand, "Hold my hand!" so that she can walk. And she figures anything her older sisters can do, she can do to. You just need to figure out how to make it happen for her.

She also likes to talk about "my baby sister." She asks to look at baby sister (I'm supposed to show her my expanding girth) and she gently pats her baby sister (my tummy). If I ask her what we should call her baby sister she usually responds with "Ellen."

Oh, I could go on and on. She's hilarious. If you get the chance to see her in action, it's worth it! She's always good for a laugh.

"More Emma" - hilarious! Glad you were able to translate that one. Ahhh - 3-year-olds! So many whys, so little time (and quiet for me!)

She sounds like a fun handful! I'd love to see her walk.

And, I'd love to see your belly! Pictures?
