Praying for you
Posted by tom | May 29, 2008On Saturday, I was discouraged and shared with a sister-in-Christ that I was wondering who is regularly praying for our mission and our family ...
- On Monday, a faculty friend emailed me Praying for you and your family and your new daughter-to-be.
- On Tuesday, I received by mail a 2008 Commitment Card with the note:
- Praying for you. Praise God! InterVarsity has come a long way since my days at Carnegie Tech! The winter retreat (your part) sounded awesome. I encourage you. The Lord still surprises and cares for me -- in older age -- as promised. Praying also for your new little one [Note: Alum from 1951].

- On Tuesday, I had an extended lunch with a brother-in-Christ which included conversation regarding next steps for a mission support team. In particular, we discussed possibilities for two additional members: 1) a team leader, and 2) a prayer coordinator.
- On Wednesday, I checked fiscal year end giving and rejoiced in finding several brothers-and-sisters-in-Christ reducing our ~$8,000 shortfall (~$15,000 in December) to ~$4000. God provides! Thank-you.
- This morning, I reviewed our commitment card file (alongside my mental list) and found at least 24 households with a regular commitments to pray for our work. One card included this note: We enjoy reading about your involvement with InterVarsity. May the Lord continue to bless you in the meaningful ministry. We enjoy your newsletters. AND these cards do not include the local congregations, mission societies, fellowship groups, and small groups which stand with us prayer. Praise God! What a timely encouragement.
- Post to our blog, drop us an email, or tell us next time you see us if you're regularly supporting us in prayer. If you'd like to start for the first time or become more consistent, choose a particular day and follow our postings on the blog, e-letters, and on-line calendar (which I'll try to update with what office work I'm addressing, including conference planning, summer courses, and writing projects). Note: please let us know what day you regularly pray for us. Also, please let us know if you'd like us to come to your fellowship group, mens group, prayer group, small group, women's group, etc to share more about our work to invite a wider part of the Body of Christ to join our mission in prayer.

Thank you for sharing about prayer and the importance of prayer in ministry. It was true when you were a undergraduate staff worker at Carnegie Mellon University and helping us out tremendously at the University of Pittsburgh. It is exciting to know how strong the CMU chapter was and still is :) Just last month, they worked with other fellowships to put an outreach as an alternative to a movie the school was showing. A Pitt student shared with me what an awesome time he had at Cedar Campus. All these shared experiences come through prayer as the Lord Jesus uses staff workers such as you and others in the field. It is easy to get discouraged at times but the Lord never leaves us nor forsakes us. Every Friday night during our cell group, I will pray for you and ask the cell group members to pray for you from Living Acts (That's one of the cell groups the Lord Jesus helps me facilitate) for Oakland International Fellowship. I talk a lot about IVCF with them and train church members using IVCF material :) Thanks for being there for me and praying for me when I was on staff with IVCF :)

Posted by Ramesh C. Reddy, May 29 2008, 15:52Lord Jesus, we come to you right now and ask you Oh Lord to forgive us when we have not interceded on behalf of our brothers and sisters as we should. Please Lord forgive our sin. Thanks for dying for our sin and coming back to life to save us. Please guide and lead Tom's family and Lord you are our Jehovah Jireh, our Provider so we believe and trust you can and will provide the needs of the Grosh family. We entrust them in your care. Please help Lord! Thank you so much Jesus! In Your Name I pray Jesus! Amen!
