Reading or Watching the Invincible Comic
Posted by tom | Jul 14, 2008A Comic Book Superhero Is Headed to Small Screens caught my attention. You might remember, I enjoyed Scott McCloud's exploration of the relationship of writer-comic-reader in the unfolding of story/meaning/time in Understanding Comics. So I wonder what he has to say regarding the creation of digital cinematic comics via scanning the comics and adding music, text pop-ups, voice-overs.
Comments: Definitely not the same. A new medium, although not so different than some other TV comics or one who scans/flips through frames/pages, with an aggressive pace which looses the reflective/imaginative frame-by-frame. Do I have to check it out just because it's new? No. But the campus setting does spark my curiosity. Anyone reading Invincible?
Invincible was created by the writer Robert Kirkman and the artist Cory Walker. The series, which began in 2003, chronicles the life of Mark Grayson, the son of Omni-Man, a superhuman with alien origins, as he copes with college, superpowers and his legacy. The comic book, published by Image Comics, recently had its 50th issue -- from A Comic Book Superhero Is Headed to Small Screens (George Gene Gustines, July 14, 2008, NY Times).
