The best thing about Sarah Palin

Posted by tom | Aug 30, 2008

All I could say was Wow! when I turned on the radio to hear Sarah Palin's vice-presidential acceptance speech (and I thought the choice was going to be Lieberman). Check out Andy Crouch's post The best thing about Sarah Palin | Culture Making, it's excellent!

The choice of Sarah Palin as John McCain’s running mate has all sorts of interesting political implications, which are being diced and parsed as I write. But I’m more interested in the long-term cultural ...

Why is a comment on a VP candidate in the South Central PA Ministry thread?  Because I'm finalizing details for Andy, the editorial director for The Christian Vision Project at Christianity Today International and author of the new InterVarsity Press book Culture-Making: Recovering Our Creative Calling, to come to the area in the spring.  And this is an example of applying the creative calling of culture-making to the present which InterVarsity Christian Fellowship brings to bear as students, faculty, staff, and administrators return to campus for the fall term ... a witness to and an example of the upside down kingdom.  Pray for the details of Andy's visit to be finalized and for these opportunities not only to equip followers of Christ but also transformatively engage the larger culture.  Note:  More on Andy and his visit in days to come.

Still wondering what is the best thing about Sarah Palin, according to Andy?

I cannot think of any other public figures in my adult life, at least of the prominence they are about to enjoy or endure, who have made this decision [i.e., not to follow the culture in aborting a Down Syndrome child, but to choose to raise one].

    Palin is a fraud.

I'm afraid Sarah Palin has not panned out to be all that my imagination could bring to the table. It has been a tough road to confession. Praying for God's grace upon and redeeming Presence in her family and next steps.
