The Friend
Posted by tom | Jan 27, 2009Still, when we ask ourselves which persons in our lives mean the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving much advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a gentle and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not-knowing, not-curing, not-healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is the friend who cares. -- Henri Nouwen, Out of Solitude, recently posted by cultureisnotoptional (cino).
Amen! We rejoice in God's gift of calling a number of His people to walk with our family. Furthermore, we pray that the Father may grant us the grace, humility, and opportunity to serve others in a similar manner on campus, in our local assembly, in our family, and to wherever we are called.
Note: If you have not already done such, I would encourage you to pick up a copy of Henri Nouwen's Out of Solitude and set aside some time to prayerfully consider his Three Meditations on the Christian Life.
