IVCF/Groshes: Prayer for Eden's adenoidectomy/Central PA Christian Scholars Network
Posted by tom | Apr 30, 2009Note: the below adapted from an email to our support team. If you desire to receive monthly email updates from us, drop us a line.
The InterVarsity event on April 19th was quite enjoyable due to the fact that it enlightened Christians on how to apply faith in Jesus to our work and allowed people from different fields to learn from each other like a family. -- Sergey, a first year Spanish Major at Millersville University
Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ, A brief update to share a prayer request, a praise, and the May prayer calendar. Please print the calendar for posting in a high traffic area like the refrigerator and/or keeping with your Bible/prayer journal. As always, many additional updates on this blog, e.g., Conversation with two elders from the Church of Latter Day Saints.
Prayer request: Tomorrow Eden has an adenoidectomy along with a replacement of an ear tube.
Pray for
- Eden to sleep through the night. Due to her anxiety regarding the 10 am surgery, she did not settle well and Theresa spent a lot of time with her.
- Eden to be ok with not eating/drinking in the morning. the procedure and the healing process to go well.
- The rest of the family to care for Eden and realize that her recovery has priority over all the dreams we have for weekend activities
Praise: We continue to hear good reports regarding the April 19 visit by Andy Crouch to Elizabethtown Brethren in Christ. He was a great blessing to members of the local assembly and the larger academic community which participated in the launch of the Central PA Christian Scholars Network. I'll let you know when my article on the event goes "live" with http://blog.emergingscholars.org. Until then,
- Here are some reflections from Michael Murray, Philosophy Professor, Franklin & Marshall College, InterVarsity Franklin & Marshall College alumnus: Events like these are extremely valuable for at least two reasons. First it provides an opportunity to get Christian scholars in a larger region to come together for fellowship and encouragement in a way that meets their distinctive needs. Second, Tom was able to bring in a speaker who could address issues that are of distinctive importance and relevance. Because of the specific nature of the event, it allowed the speaker to address issues that would not be appropriate for a general church audience but which is keenly relevant to Christian scholars.
- Check out Byron Borger's, Hearts & Minds Bookstore, glowing post on the launch of the Central PA Christian Scholars Network, http://www.heartsandmindsbooks.com/booknotes/culture_making_the_christian_s/
- Pray for the proposal and planning of future events. Note: several for 2009-2010 are already in process. Events for 2010-2011 are in the brainstorming stage.
- Pray for good follow-up not only with those present, but also with new leads regarding Christian scholars in the area who desire to connect in order to receive encouragement and equipping in order to be salt and light on campus. To God be the glory!
One more day by the grace of God alone,
